Around 400 jobs could be created from a new £20million computing centre in Inverness after plans were submitted to council planners
Around 40 positions would be created within the centre but would also create hundreds of ‘spin off’ jobs.
If approved the centre could be open by next year.
The facility is seen as an alternative to storing data on personal computers.
It is understood the Highlands’ naturally cool atmosphere will keep the temperature of the computers within operational limits.
In addition, the heat created by the computers will be harnessed to heat surrounding premises.
