Scotland to receive first eco data centre
12/02/2010

A green data centre is planned for the Scottish Highlands.

The first eco-friendly data centre is to be established in Scotland to boost business productivity.

IT services company Alchemy Plus, a Microsoft partner, will build the facility as part of a major development at Inverness Harbour and offer electronic information storage to enterprises of all sizes.

The firm noted that the area is ideal for data management firms due to its climate, renewable energy provision and relative security.

Furthermore, the project will place environmental concerns at its core, adopting a holistic approach to power conservation and using local wind and hydro-electric energy sources.

The 20,000 sq ft facility will also transmit waste heat to other parts of the Inverness Harbour development, such as offices, retail units and a major hotel.

Peter Swanson, Chairman of Alchemy Plus, commented: "All the major players see this as the future of IT delivery and I'm delighted that we in the Highlands are leading the way for the rest of the UK.
